Ways of collecting and administrating

Measures ofJingdezhenChinaCeramicsMuseumfor the Control of Collecting


       To implement the policy of “protection is lord, rescue the first”, strengthen the collecting, conservation and management of relics and serve for exhibition, propaganda and education, and scientific research, according to Law of People’s Republic of China’s Conservation of Relics, some relevant national policies and quality, duty and characteristic of the museum, measures are drawn up as follows:
Ⅰ. Range
       Scattered relics which are unearthed or are handed down from ancient times are included, except stolen relics of from stolen tombs.
Ⅱ. Ways of searching
       1. Searching in society
       Relics and sample material that scattered in society and folk are collected, including some relics that are handed down from ancient times by some units or persons, in ways of allocation, donation, and exchange and purchase and so on.
       1.1. Allocation refers to that the museum accepts relics and sample materials allocated by some units.
       1.2. Donation refers to that the museum accepts relics and sample materials donated by some individuals or units. Donations shall be identified, and some formalities shall be dealt with after definition.
       1.3. Some relics and sample materials are exchanged with some museums and relics- collecting units according to needs voluntarily and equally.
       1.4. Some relics and sample materials are purchased in economic means, which shall be identified carefully. After making sure that they meet the needs and qualifications of collecting, relics and sample materials shall be purchased.
       2.Accept transferred  relics and sample materials
       2.1 Relics and sample materials that are impounded by police, court, customs and business administration and so on and are transferred to the museum are collected.
Ⅲ. Procedures
       1. Safekeeping department shall be in charge of collecting relics, a relics-collecting team shall be set up in safekeeping department
       2. Relics-collecting team shall be in charge of searching for clues of collecting relics, drawing up plans and compiling schemes.
       3. Relics –collecting schemes shall be examined, approved and estimated by related experts who are arranged by academic board, and the experts shall give suggestions for the reference of leaders’ decisions.
       4. Relics-collecting team shall put the relics –collecting schemes into effect after approval.

Ⅴ. Ways of Collecting
       1. Relics-collecting team shall volunteer to persuade groups or individuals to donate or shall collect relics and sample materials that are unearthed informally or scattered in folk.
       2. Collect relics and sample materials collected by folk collectors in free or paid way.
       3. Collect relics and sample materials sold by groups or individuals.
       4. Collect relics exchanged with other collecting units in free way or paid way.
       5. Relics found when construction shall be rescued and put in order or collected.
Ⅵ. Procedures of joining the collection
       1. Relics –collecting team shall be in charge of collecting relics and dealing with formalities of collecting, donating, allocating and exchanging relics.
       2. Donors without pay shall be rewarded emotionally and financially.
       3. If relics are allocated or exchanged without pay, documents of obtaining permissions, agreements and formalities shall be dealt with; if with pay, the amount of money shall be confirmed.
       4. When relics are purchased, policy and gauge of price shall be made clear for sellers. No buy and sell by force, no trade in private, and keep secret of sellers.
       5. Relics joining the collection need identification and price estimate. Experts and members of academic committee work as identification people. If necessary, identification persons of Relics Bureau are required. Three identification persons’ signatures are also required.
       6. The information of relics shall be recorded for details and described accurately for its situation when it joins the collection.
       7. After these procedures, relics shall be transferred to the supervisor of ledger for immediately registering, numbering and making cards and so on, and then transferred to the store room.
